The Difference Between Misaligned and Simply Difficult
One of the most important questions a leader can ask is this: Is this hard because it is wrong, or hard because it is worth it?
Misalignment and difficulty can feel identical from the inside. Both drain energy. Both create friction. But they call for opposite responses. Misalignment asks you to change direction. Difficulty asks you to stay the course with support.
The skill is discernment, and it is learnable. Notice where the resistance lives. Misalignment tends to feel like betrayal of something true. Difficulty tends to feel like growth that hasn’t finished yet.
Give yourself permission to name the difference. It will save you from abandoning the right thing and from enduring the wrong thing.
